The common mental health disorder that an estimated number of millions of people experience each year is depression. As will be demonstrated in the following chapters, depression is not merely a state of unhappiness or stress; it is an intricate state, which is, in a certain manner, a subject’s state of mind and body. For one to identify the symptoms and get the right treatment, he or she should have stellar knowledge or appreciation of the effects of depression on mental health.

How Depression Affects Feelings
Emotional damage is undoubtedly one of the most evident effects of depression. If the treatment is not given, these feelings may persist from weeks to months or years. People may feel that he or she is no longer in touch with reality but simply go through life and no longer have fun as once did. For the same reason, persons who are affected may feel like a burden to other people or are too tired to engage in social activities, and that is why they suffer from constant stress that leads to social isolation. There is therefore a lot of isolation, which compounds the illness and feeds the cycle of depression.
